This is the directive from Adamawa State Government to residents of the State and it follows the destruction of over seventy contaminated cow carcasses at the Jimeta Modern Abattoir.
The cow carcasses were destroyed after they were found to contain poisonous substance after consuming poisonous grass, making the meat unsafe for human consumption.

A disturbing scenario unfolds, as preliminary reports indicate the affected cows were traced to parts of Fufore Local Government Area and neighbouring Cameroon republic.
Adamawa State Commissioner for Livestock and Aquaculture Development, Alhaji Salihu Idris, while speaking to Government House reporters during an inspection visit to the Jimeta Modern Abattoir.
He said the government is committed to protecting public health and will not allow unsafe meat to be sold to residents.
We are always active in the ministry of livestock and aquaculture, to see that we always guarantee the public of food security,
And on that mater, we have responded very early and actively and all necessary measures have been taken care and we are calling on general public to always buy their meat at approved abattoirs by the government, like this one. And also to be extra vigilant for those who are coming through the bye pass with the meat from unknown places to sell to the public
The Commissioner, added that the action followed a directive from Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, to ensure that only safe and healthy meat gets to the public.
But what caused the mysterious deaths of the cows? And how did they end up at the Jimeta modern abbattoir
Well…. earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Suleiman, confirmed that the cows had eaten poisonous grass.
He explained that samples of the grass would be sent to the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital for laboratory analysis and expert advice.
There were well over 70 cattle that died as a result of this.

Also speaking, the Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Bartholomew Nyalas, said the discovery highlights the ministry’s commitment to safeguarding public health.
In the meantime, residents are expected to adhere to the directive not to consume meat not purchased from approved abattoirs, while government further investigates.
